October 14, 2010.
Our first Science topic this year is all about the Life Science strand for Grade 3 & 4.
We have been learning about various Plants, Habitats and Communities.
We started with the Monarch Butterfly which lives in our own habitat. http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/animals/creaturefeature/monarch-butterflies/
We raised Monarch caterpillars in class, released them and visited the Carleton University Butterfly exhibit.

Next we looked at an Arctic habitat which is quite different with interesting creatures such as polar bears.
An Arctic Tale can be reviewed at this link http://www.arctictalemovie.com/index.html?sect=kids where we learned about Global Warming and the effect of disapearing ice shield on the Arctic. More about the Arctic and Polar bears in particular can be explored at

There are educational games, videos and more on this National Geographic website.
Have fun learning!
